AUGUSTA, Ga. — A star-studded leaderboard and patron-filled course have the 2022 Masters already reaching a fever pitch as Round 2 action begins Friday. Sung-jae Im tops that board at 5 under after a stellar first 18 holes, but his lead is minuscule with Cameron Smith, former champions Danny Willett and Dustin Johnson, Joaquín Niemann and Scottie Scheffler among those nipping at his heels as the second day of action begins.

Still, it’s Tiger Woods who is drawing most of the air out of the atmosphere at Augusta National. Playing his first event in 17 months — and just 14 months removed from nearly losing his leg — Woods shot the most remarkable 71 in Masters history to sit T11 and just four shots back of Im. Tiger is not only likely to make the cut barring disaster Friday, he may well be in contention to win his sixth green jacket entering the weekend. All of it makes for a must-watch second round that should be thrilling from sunrise to sunset on Friday.

Watch the 2022 Masters streaming Friday with Masters Live as we follow the best golfers in the world throughout Augusta National with Featured Groups, check in at the famed Amen Corner and see leaders round the turn on Holes 15 & 16. Watch live for free on desktop and mobile via CBSSports.com and CBS Sports App. Also available on Paramount+.

CBS Sports will update this story with scores and highlights from the Masters below. Check out the live scores at the top of this story, a more detailed leaderboard, Round 2 tee times and our complete Masters TV schedule / coverage guide.

Charl Schwartzel: Six straight missed cuts, no top 10s since last July. Absolutely no form whatsoever coming into this week. Currently T7. Golf is idiotic.

Featured groups coverage in afternoon wave

Loaded — and I mean loaded — featured groups this afternoon. Reigning champion Hideki Matsuyama and Tiger Woods among the half-dozen set to be featured.

Big names making run in Round 2

After underwhelming showings in Round 1, Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa and Rory McIlroy are all in the red early in Round 2. Rahm pace of 2 under through four holes is best in the field thus far as he’s already erased the 2-over start to his week from Thursday.

Seems like the early wave today is out to try and be aggressive and score when possible. Afternoon in Augusta is expected to harden up the course and bring with it some nasty wind gusts that could affect play.

Rory gives himself a great look at birdie on No. 2 to get it back to even par. I’m still frustrated with his first round. He gained over two strokes on the field off the tee and somehow shot over par to mostly take himself out of the mix going into Friday. Just didn’t have any ability to score on Thursday.

Sungjae Im recaptures lead in Round 2

An opening-hole bogey moved Sungjae Im into a share of the lead with Cameron Smith at 4 under. Im, though, has already responded with a birdie on the third to recapture the lead, moving to 5 under and one clear of Cameron Smith through four holes. Should be plenty of see-sawing today on the leaderboard with so many big names bunched up at the top.

Opening birdie for 25-year-old star Collin Morikawa as we he works his way back to EVEN on the tournament. Morikawa trying to join elite company this week with a third career major championship by 25, something only Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have accomplished.

Masters leader Sungjae Im opens with bogey

After opening birdie-birdie-birdie on Thursday, Round 1 leader Sungjae Im opens Round 2 with a bogey at No. 1 to drop back into a share of the lead with Aussie Cameron Smith. Im’s drive on No. 1 split the fairway, but he missed his approach and bungled his chip into the green, too.
